FAQ

Common questions before installing.

Short answers about local processing, Free/Trial/Pro, interface languages, purchase, activation, and recovery.

Is Diktator just a wrapper around a speech model?

No. Diktator adds its own dictation layer: preprocessing before recognition, pause-aware segmentation, context handling, spoken formatting, and postprocessing after recognition. The goal is usable writing, not just raw speech-to-text output.

Does downloading start the Pro Trial?

No. Installing Diktator does not start the trial. You can use the free version for as long as you like and start the 21-day trial yourself inside the app whenever you are ready.

What happens after the 21-day trial ends?

After the trial, you can continue in Free mode with one model, without model selection and some advanced features.

Does Free have a dictation quota?

No. Free has no minutes, word, character, or session-count quota in the approved matrix.

Do the 13 languages mean 13 dictation languages?

No. On this website, 13 currently means prepared interface languages. Dictation is multilingual, and language quality is expanded and tested over time.

Is my dictated audio sent to cloud transcription?

No. Dictated audio and recognized text are processed locally on your Mac. They are not sent online or shared with anyone unless you choose to send the resulting text somewhere yourself.

Do I buy Pro on the website?

The recommended path is inside Diktator after installation or trial. The website also provides secure checkout and license recovery for an existing installation.

Will a direct Pro license unlock the App Store or iPhone/iPad builds?

Direct website licenses and Apple in-app purchases are separate. After purchase verification, website buyers can request an App Store promo code, and App Store buyers can request a website promo code.

How many Macs does Pro support?

One direct Pro license supports up to three simultaneously active Macs. Deactivate an old Mac before using its activation place on a replacement Mac.

Can I use Diktator offline?

Yes. After the required local model is installed, dictation works offline.

Is Diktator a meeting recorder?

Diktator is not specifically designed as a meeting recorder, but it can record and transcribe meetings.

Which Diktator download should I use?

Download Diktator from this website. It is signed, notarized, and requires an Apple silicon Mac running macOS 26 or later.

Can Diktator translate from any language to any other language?

You can try any source and target language available in the app. Translation quality is not guaranteed for every pair, especially when one or both languages are rare, so review important results.

Which model should I use for translation?

Try several models and keep the one that works best for your language pair. Different models can produce different results for the same source and target languages, especially with rare-language pairs.

Is translation local?

Translation with the local speech model stays on your Mac. Apple Translation is local only when the required language resources are downloaded and On-Device Mode is enabled in macOS; otherwise Apple may translate online.

Choose your edition

Diktator is now on the App Store.

Use one App Store page for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. On a Mac, choose the signed and notarized direct edition from this website for the fullest set of Diktator features and the most flexible workflow.

App Store purchases and direct website licenses are separate.

Why choose the direct Mac edition?

App Store apps follow Apple's sandbox rules, which limit some system-level integrations. The direct edition can therefore offer more flexible shortcuts, text delivery, and advanced Mac workflow options.
